City of Jacksonville Beach is seeking a Utility Service Worker I to perform semiskilled manual work in installing, repairing, and maintaining public utilities and related systems. The role involves operating trucks and equipment, locating service lines, and performing road and drainage work.

This position performs responsible semiskilled manual work in the installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of public works utilities and related systems; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of a General Supervisor. Work may be specialized according to department and division assigned.
A high school diploma or equivalent.
A driver's license valid in the State of Florida. Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment.
This position is part of the Qualification Advancement Program. To advance to Utility Service Worker II – Streets and Stormwater, an employee must complete two years of service as a Utility Service Worker I, and obtain a Class C Stormwater Certificate. To advance to Utility Service Worker II – Distribution and Collection, an employee must complete two years of service as a Utility Service Worker I, and obtain a Class 3 Distribution License and a Class C Collection Certification.
The work is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Work is performed inside and outside under environmental conditions such as extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, working in confined spaces, and wearing an appropriate respiratory protection device as necessary. The worker may be exposed to blood borne and/or waterborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

For external candidates, the starting salary for this position is $20.73 per hour. For internal candidates, the starting salary will be based on A.04 and A.05 of the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures.
The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Additionally, occasional overtime, standby shifts, weekends, holiday work, and emergency recalls may be required.
