Brunswick County Public Utility is currently accepting applications for a Utility Plant Maintenance Mechanic to perform maintenance and preventative maintenance for the county's wastewater treatment plants. Classified as a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Facility by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), Brunswick County Public Utilities provides wastewater (sewer) services to roughly 28,000 retail sewer customers and wholesale customers across a large service area. Our Public Utility team is committed to the community and takes a lot of pride in providing a high level of wastewater treatment service to our customers every day.
The Utility Plant Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for repairing, rebuilding, disassembling, reassembling, installing, testing, operating, and troubleshooting various machines and equipment (with a focus on hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components) to help ensure the delivery of properly treated wastewater affluent. Brunswick County Public Utilities utilizes a career ladder program for advancement which allows employees to further their career in the water treatment field through promotion as advanced grades of NC Maintenance Technologist certifications are attained. Promotions include a 5% increase in pay when all criteria are met.
High school diploma (or GED) and experience in a water/wastewater treatment or other industrial facility; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including motor vehicles, backhoe, 3-ton trucks, tractors, numerous pumps, lawn mowers, generators, water pumps, etc., and electrician and mechanic hand tools. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are those of Medium to Heavy Work.
