Job description

Summary

The Utility Painter is responsible for the application of a wide range of liquid coating applications, utilizing various techniques, on a multitude of marine equipment and vessels. Primarily this role will be aboard a vessel and will also help out vessel crew when needed.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Cleaning, painting, and varnishing different surface types.
  • Properly preparing surfaces for painting including power-washing and/or sanding.
  • Selecting and mixing appropriate paints.
  • Applying paint coatings using conventional or airless spray equipment.
  • Maintaining all paint-related equipment and managing communications for paint inventory.
  • Ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Operating equipment such as hand tools and paint sprayers.
  • Performing tasks like sandblasting and caulking.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Assisting in handling of ropes and cables in the dredge and boating process.
  • Assisting in cleaning pumps/cutters, utilizing small hand tools.
  • Assisting in all vessel housekeeping.
  • Assisting in installation of pipelines over the water and onshore.
  • Assisting in maintaining housekeeping on floating equipment and placement area site.
  • Participating in all Safety and Environmental initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Must have the ability to travel and work a 28 / 14 on and off hitch.
  • Must be able to live aboard dredge.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a painter, preferably industrial or maritime.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and be of help to fellow crew mates.
  • Must be able to comply with our Drug & Alcohol testing procedures.
  • Must be able to work safely with the highest standards of quality.
  • Preferably, have a minimum of 3 years of experience working on a maritime vessel.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must perform the job's essential functions with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, the employee must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
