• Operates heavy equipment (such as but not limited to the following; Tandem, Loader, Backhoe, Street Sweeper,10 ton Roller, Grader);
• Load and unload equipment and materials;
• Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;
• Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications;
• Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
• Participate in Winter Works, as required, including shift work if necessary.
• Must be willing to accept occupational related training and achieve proficiency in operation of snow and ice equipment;
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

• Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Three (3) years related work experience.
• Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement;

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

• Must be trained and experienced in operatingCAT 140H grader equipment or equivalent
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills;
• Must have a good attendance and work record;
• Working knowledge of methods, material and equipment usage involved in Road Operations and Construction;
• Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions;
• Ability to work independently, and as a team player;
• Ability to follow instructionsand communicate effectively with members of your team, traffic control and signage and/ormembers of the public.
• WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification, Provincial Traffic Control Certification and Signage Course or ability to successfully complete.
• Candidates must be able to provide a clear Criminal Records Check.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have valid licensing, as required.

HOURS OF WORK:Monday – Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm are the regular hours for this position.Candidates must be capable of engaging in shift workfor the Winter Works program.

SALARY:$28.48 per hour, as per the CUPE 108 Collective Agreement
