Job summary

The City of Firebaugh is seeking a Utility Maintenance Worker I to support the water distribution and sewer systems, public works, and facilities. The role requires operating tools, performing routine maintenance, and maintaining accurate records while ensuring safety rules are followed.

Qualified candidates will have a Water & Sewer Distribution Grade I Certificate, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a California Driver's License.

Qualifications

• Ability to wear and properly maintain City-issued uniforms and personal protective equipment.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and California Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's water distribution and sewer collection systems.
• Perform routine public works maintenance including streets, facilities, landscaping, and grounds maintenance; operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment.
• Inspect utility system components, identify deficiencies, and report repair needs.
• Assist with reading, repairing, replacing, and maintaining water meters.
• Follow all City and CAL-OSHA safety procedures and provide courteous customer service to residents, contractors, and City staff.

The City of Firebaugh is accepting applications for the position of Utility Maintenance Worker I. Salary

Fiscal Year 20262027 (3.5% Increase)

• Hourly: $19.96 $26.74
• Monthly: $3,458 $4,635
• Annual: $41,506 $55,622

Required Qualifications

• Water & Sewer Distribution Grade I Certificate (required; must be obtained within an agreed time schedule) Ability to comply with all City and CAL-OSHA safety rules and regulations

Essential Job Duties

• Assist in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's water distribution and sewer collection systems. Perform routine public works maintenance including streets, facilities, landscaping, and grounds maintenance. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment.
• Inspect utility system components, identify deficiencies, and report repair needs.
• Assist with reading, repairing, replacing, and maintaining water meters.
• Clean, clear, and maintain pipelines, valves, fire hydrants, and related utility infrastructure. Respond to customer service requests, emergency situations, and scheduled after-hours assignments. Maintain accurate records, work logs, and reports.
• Follow all City and CAL-OSHA safety procedures while using City-issued uniforms and protective equipment. Provide courteous and professional customer service while interacting with residents, contractors, and City staff.
