Job summary

The City of Pearland is accepting applications for a full-time Utility Maintenance Worker in the Utilities - Distribution and Collections Construction division. The role involves a variety of manual tasks in water distribution and wastewater facilities with on-site responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Valid Texas Driver's License (Class C) required.
• Class I Wastewater Certificate preferred, or ability to obtain within six months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Install valves, water lines, and manholes; sewer pipes with appropriate fillings and tees.
• Repair streets, sidewalks, curbs, and meters.
• Assist in measuring distances from grade stakes.
• Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
• Signal operators of construction equipment to meet grade specifications.
• Gather and organize materials to be transported; load pipe, manhole, and other materials onto truck for delivery to job site.
• Position, join, align, and seal pipe sections.
• Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
• Mop, brush, or spread paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
• Apply caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
• Grind, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, steel, and plastic.
• Saw lumber, dismantle forms, remove projections from concrete, mount pipe hangers, and dig out and clean around pipes.
• Check stock in yard for job assignments and for upcoming jobs.
• Perform maintenance on machines, trucks, etc., ensuring that equipment is greased, washed and cleaned, and oil is changed.
• Pick up around job site ensuring cleanup and ground is leveled back to grade.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

1–3 months related experience and/or training

Valid Texas Driver's License (Class C)

Class I Wastewater Certificate, preferred or obtainable within 6 months
