The Utility Locator at Maverix Broadband plays crucial role a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of various construction and excavation projects by accurately identifying and marking the location of underground utilities. Their responsibilities will include using specialized equipment, interpreting utility maps, and effectively communicating findings to project teams.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough site surveys to identify the presence and location of underground utilities, including electrical lines, gas pipelines, water mains, telecommunications cables, and other relevant infrastructure.
- Utilize specialized equipment and utility maps to accurately locate and mark underground utilities.
- Employ safe and efficient digging techniques, such as hand digging or vacuum excavation, to expose and verify utility locations when necessary.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction crews, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate utility marking and provide necessary guidance for excavation and construction activities.
- Interpret and analyze utility maps, blueprints, and as-built drawings to determine the potential location and depth of underground utilities.
- Maintain accurate records of utility markings, site surveys, and other relevant data using appropriate documentation tools or software.
- Follow established safety protocols and industry best practices to minimize the risk of accidents or damage to utility infrastructure during excavation or construction.
- Stay up to date with relevant industry regulations, guidelines, and technological advancements related to utility locating and excavation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to utility locating, such as conflicting utility records, unexpected findings, or incomplete mapping information.
- Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and stakeholders to provide updates, clarify requirements, and address any concerns related to utility locating activities.

Education/Experience
- Clean driving record and reliable transportation
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or vocational training in utility locating or related field is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Utility Locator or similar role, preferably in the construction, utility, or telecommunications industry.
- Strong knowledge of utility locating techniques, equipment, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting utility maps, blueprints, and other technical documents.
- Familiarity with relevant safety guidelines and regulations, such as OSHA standards for excavation and trenching.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing situations.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a high degree of accuracy in marking and recording utility locations.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
