Job summary

Sunrise Telecom Inc. seeks an experienced utility locator to identify and mark underground utilities in diverse outdoor environments.

You will interpret maps and GIS data, operate electromagnetic locators and GPR, and precisely mark locations for construction crews while maintaining strict safety standards. Work is field-based, requiring readiness for varying weather, strong communication, and careful documentation of all locates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or telecommunications preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, prints, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Comfortable using technology (tablets, GPS systems, locating equipment).
• Strong communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities (fiber optic, gas, electric, water, sewer, etc.) using specialized equipment.
• Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and GIS data to ensure accurate locating.
• Utilize electromagnetic locating devices and ground-penetrating radar as needed.
• Clearly mark utility locations using paint, flags, and other approved methods in accordance with industry standards.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, crews, and project managers regarding utility locations and potential conflicts.
• Document all locates, including photos, sketches, and reports, using company systems and applications.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and local/state guidelines (e.g., 811 requirements).
• Respond to emergency locate requests as needed.
• Maintain and care for company-provided equipment and vehicles.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk long distances and work on uneven terrain.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on‑call availability.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required)

• Utility locating certification
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• Valid DOT medical card
