The City of El Paso is seeking an experienced supervisor to lead water well and booster pump maintenance and the operation of wastewater plant equipment. You will oversee a skilled crew, coordinate daily tasks, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across city facilities.
Qualified candidates have a high school diploma or GED with several years of hands-on experience and a proven supervisory background.
Education and Experience: A High School diploma, GED or higher and five (5) years of experience in construction, maintenance or repair of water wells or pumping stations or maintenance of various treatment equipment used at a water or wastewater plant, including two (2) years lead work or supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Some positions will require a Class "D" Water Operations License issued by the State of Texas within one (1) year after appointment and a Class "C" Water Operators License issued by the State of Texas required within two and a half (2.5) years of appointment. A valid Texas Driver's License and a Commercial Driver's License Class A or B will be required within six (6) months after appointment including a HAZMAT endorsement on some positions.
Under general supervision, supervise, coordinate, oversee, lead, guide, and perform repairs in water well and booster pump and/or water or wastewater plant treatment equipment repair, installation, and maintenance through all areas of the El Paso Water.
Supervise and oversee water well and booster pump, water or wastewater plant treatment equipment repair and maintenance. Involves: Prepare work orders. Maintain and operate wells reservoirs, pumps, chlorination or other disinfection feed equipment, well, booster station, various water or wastewater treatment or sludge collection equipment, and/or lift station equipment. Perform a variety of hands‑on general to specific maintenance tasks install valves, cut with torches, weld, install pumps, break down pumps for inspections and maintenance, install water cans in new construction of booster stations, adjust pump impellers, wash walls of reservoirs, repair water leaks on discharge lines and small fittings, get Bac‑t's samples and chlorine residuals from boosters, wells and reservoirs. Ensure all preventative and corrective maintenance is completed according to all regulatory rules and guidelines. Record water pressure, level, flow rate, stages, RPM's, frame, model number, etc. into database. Oversee and monitor contractors to ensure work is performed in a proper, safe and timely manner. Ensure contracted preventative and corrective maintenance is performed to comply with all regulatory requirements. Develop and provide safety training to contracted workers.
Supervises crew leaders, trades, technical and labor staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, and review of operational and procedural activities. Prioritize and coordinate crew activities. Instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide training and development. Enforce personnel rules, regulations, and work standards. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony.
Perform related duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of subordinate personnel or others as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Interact with federal, state and local officials, supervisors, contractors, other departments, coworkers or the general public.

All regular employees who are regularly scheduled to work on an average, a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week, who have held a position in the City Service for a period of six months from date of employment, shall be eligible for vacation allowance as hereinafter set forth. Part‑time employees shall accrue vacation leave at a pro‑rated amount of full‑time entitlement based on the number of hours that they are scheduled to work. Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements shall accrue vacation as provided in the applicable agreement.
Regular employees in the City Service shall accrue vacation credit at the following rates per pay period, calculated from the date of employment of each employee:
40 hour per week employees - 3.70 hours per biweekly pay period
40 hour per week employees - 5.24 hours per biweekly pay period
40 hour per week employees - 6.16 hours per biweekly pay period
Employees shall be entitled to accrue sick leave with pay in accordance with the Rules of the Civil Service Commission.
The Amended Section 4.4 of the Ordinance shall become effective upon adoption and shall apply to occupational injuries and occupational diseases occurring on and after date of adoption. Occupational injuries and occupational diseases occurring before such date will be governed by the Ordinance in effect at the time of the date of injury or disease.
In addition to the above days, the following days are also declared to be legal holidays: 1. Any day designated as a holiday by City Council. 2. When any legal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be considered a legal holiday. 3. When any legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the following business day shall be considered a legal holiday.
