Job summary

Jack Harper Electrical (JHE), the leading highway electrical contractor in the Gulf Coast Region, is seeking applicants for field labor roles. Responsibilities include performing tasks on heavy/highway construction, installing electrical components, and adhering to OSHA safety procedures on traffic projects.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and flexibility for overtime, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks in heavy/highway construction projects.
  • Follow OSHA safety procedures and report issues to supervisor and Safety Department.
  • Install basic electrical components (conduits, junction boxes) and perform related electrical tasks.
  • Operate heavy equipment (forklifts, excavators, skid steers) safely as trained.
  • Load/unload materials and secure on trailers; perform daily DOT inspections.

Job description

Jack Harper Electrical (JHE) is the leading highway electrical contractor in the Gulf Coast Region. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway construction projects
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring issues to the appropriate warehouse or job site supervisor as well as the designated Safety Department representative.
  • Perform basic math calculations to determine how to cut wooden forms to the correct sizes based on drawings.
  • Perform manual digging operations based on drawings (shovel, edger, etc.).
  • Upon completion of training, demonstrate the ability to utilize aerial lifts to hang traffic signals.
  • Upon completion of training, demonstrate the ability to conduct bridge aerial work using a bridge machine.
  • As required, and under supervision, install basic electrical system components (conduits, junction boxes, etc.) and perform basic electrical tasks (pull conductors through conduit, wire conductors, etc.).
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely operate heavy equipment (forklifts, excavators, skid steers).
  • Properly secure material and equipment on a trailer.
  • Properly hook up a trailer to a vehicle.
  • Perform daily DOT inspections on equipment to ensure vehicles meet DOT guidelines.
  • At all times, safely utilizes hand tools (drills, hammers, levels, etc.).
  • Upon completion of training, implement proper traffic control techniques.
  • As required, load and unload trucks and trailers.
  • Competently perform basic vehicle maintenance (oil changes, tires, etc.).
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientation, training, and printed materials.
  • Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Perform materials handling and storage.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma, equivalent, or past work experience
  • Must possess a current Driver's License, Commercial Driver's License (Type A) preferred
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with overtime, nights, and weekends as the job requires
  • Must meet the eligibility requirements of the company Fleet Policy to be a company sanctioned driver.
  • If requested, must successfully complete company provided Smith Driving Certification (eligible drivers only)
  • The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math
  • Ability to manage time between two or more projects at one time.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and procedures
  • Possess minimum ability to read a tape measure
  • The ability to apply knowledge and skills to achieve intended results
  • Must successfully complete company provided First Aid, CPR, AED, and Flagger training/certification
  • If requested, must successfully complete company provided Forklift training/certification. Not all JHE employees are required to utilize forklifts. Forklifts may only be used by designated employees AFTER they have received their company provided Forklift training/certification.
