Job summary

Zekelman Industries is hiring a Machine Operator – Utility in Kansas City, MO. You will set up and operate high-speed equipment with robotic elements to form or cut steel to precise dimensions, maintaining safety and quality in a fast-paced plant environment.

The role emphasizes detail orientation, technical skill, and adherence to safety standards, with opportunities for growth in continuous improvement initiatives and hands-on maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Manufacturing or industrial experience, preferred.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to read and write English and maintain production records.
  • Experience using measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Observe all safety and lockout/tagout procedures to operate equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform advanced equipment setup and calibration to meet production requirements.
  • Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after production.
  • Record and report quality deficiencies to supervisors or the quality department.
  • Maintain equipment tooling and tools necessary for job completion.
  • Diagnose equipment and quality issues while minimizing scrap and production delays.
  • Complete production, changeover, and scrap material reports.
  • Assist maintenance teams with equipment repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance efficiency.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain clean and safe work areas.
