Job summary

Zekelman Industries in Kansas City, MO, is seeking a Machine Operator – Utility to set up and operate high-speed equipment with robotic elements to form or cut steel to exact specifications. You will help maintain safety, quality, and efficient production in a fast-paced facility.

The role favors detail-oriented, technically skilled candidates committed to continuous improvement. Requires ability to read English, basic math, and experience with measuring devices; forklift/crane operation

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and write English and maintain production records/logs.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, decimals, and fractions.
• Experience using measuring devices (tape measures, micrometers, calipers).
• Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment as required.

Responsibilities

• Observe safety and lockout/tagout procedures to operate equipment safely.
• Perform equipment setup and calibration to meet production requirements.
• Inspect materials for quality before, during, and after production.
• Record quality deficiencies and report to supervision/QA.
• Maintain tooling and assist with maintenance and preventive tasks.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and efficiency efforts.
• Complete production, changeover, and scrap reports; keep areas clean.

This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, technically skilled, and committed to safety and continuous improvement.**Shift:** 1st**Pay**: $25/Hour**What You’ll Do*** Observe all safety and lockout/tagout procedures to operate equipment efficiently and effectively* Perform advanced equipment setup and calibration to meet production requirements* Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after production* Record and report quality deficiencies to supervisors or the quality department* Maintain equipment tooling and tools necessary for job completion* Diagnose equipment and quality issues while minimizing scrap and production delays* Complete production, changeover, and scrap material reports* Assist maintenance teams with equipment repairs and preventive maintenance activities* Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance efficiency* Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain clean and safe work areas* Perform additional duties as assigned by management**Who You Are*** High school diploma or equivalent, preferred* Ability to read and write English and maintain production records and logs* Manufacturing or industrial experience, preferred* Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, decimals, and fractions* Experience using measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers* Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment required for the role* Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently* Commitment to promoting safe work practices in compliance with regulatory agencies and company policy* Ability to maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance**Physical Abilities*** Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles for extended periods without fatigue* Perform constant movement requiring manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina* Remain in a stationary position for extended periods when needed* Lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull as required* Lift up to 60 pounds* Stand for 10–12 hours per shift* Perform work in a plant or manufacturing environment**What You’ll Get****Zekelman Industries** offers competitive compensation and excellent benefits, including low-cost, high-quality medical and dental coverage.
