Job summary

Zekelman Industries in Kansas City, MO is hiring a Machine Operator - Utility to set up and operate high-speed robotic equipment that forms or cuts steel to precise dimensions. You will ensure safety, quality, and on-time production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read and write English and maintain production records and logs.
• Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
• Basic math skills including decimals and fractions.
• Experience using measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
• Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment required for the role.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently.
• Commitment to promoting safe work practices in compliance with regulatory agencies and company policy.

Responsibilities

• Observe all safety and lockout/tagout procedures to operate equipment efficiently and effectively.
• Perform advanced equipment setup and calibration to meet production requirements.
• Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after production.
• Record and report quality deficiencies to supervisors or the quality department.
• Maintain equipment tooling and tools necessary for job completion.
• Diagnose equipment and quality issues while minimizing scrap and production delays.
• Complete production, changeover, and scrap material reports.
• Assist maintenance teams with equipment repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance efficiency.
• Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain clean and safe work areas.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

About the Role

As a Machine Operator - Utility at Zekelman Industries , Kansas City, MO , this role is responsible for setting up and operating high-speed equipment with robotic elements to form or cut steel to specified dimensions and specifications. This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Pay: $25/Hour

What You'll Do

Who You Are

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred

• Ability to read and write English and maintain production records and logs

• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, decimals, and fractions

• Experience using measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers

• Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment required for the role

• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently

• Commitment to promoting safe work practices in compliance with regulatory agencies and company policy

• Ability to maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance

Physical Abilities

• Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles for extended periods without fatigue

• Perform constant movement requiring manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina

• Remain in a stationary position for extended periods when needed

• Lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull as required

• Lift up to 60 pounds

• Stand for 10-12 hours per shift

• Perform work in a plant or manufacturing environment
