Job summary

The City of Webster's Public Works Department is seeking a Utility Equipment Operator to maintain the City's water and sewer systems and operate various equipment. The role includes responding to emergencies and interacting with residents, with occasional on-call duties in evenings and weekends and supervision of other staff.

Applicants should have over one year of relevant experience, and may be preferred to hold a Texas CDL, Equipment Operator Certification, and Class D water/wastewater

Responsibilities

  • Operate backhoes, tractors, box blades, mowers, forklifts, saw cutters, dump trucks, and wood-chippers to maintain water and sewer systems.
  • Monitor the City's water and sewer systems and perform skilled equipment operation to repair and maintain infrastructure.
  • Respond to emergencies and interact with City employees and citizens.
  • Occasional on-call duties in evenings and weekends; provide direction to other employees.

Job description

Job Announcement:

The City of Webster's Public Works Department is accepting applications for the position of Utility Equipment Operator. The purpose of this position is to maintain the City's utility services. This is accomplished by monitoring the City's water and sewer systems, and skilled operation of equipment to maintain and repair water and sewer systems. Other duties may include responding to emergencies and interfacing with City employees and citizens. This position requires occasional on-call duties in the evenings and on weekends and provides direction to other employees.



Minimum Qualifications:

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained within six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalent. Over one year of relevant experience required.



  • Valid Texas CDL Driver's License (preferred)

  • Preferred Equipment Operator Certification

  • Preferred Class \"D\" Water and Wastewater Operator Licenses from TCEQ



Special Requirements:

Operates City's equipment by using backhoes, tractors, box blades, and various types of mowers, forklifts, saw cutters, dump trucks and wood-chippers.


Applicants will be required to demonstrate proficiency in selected equipment during the interview process.


Must be able to obtain TCEQ Class \"D\" Water and Wastewater licenses within 6 months after hire.


This is an essential services position. Employees in essential services positions will be required to provide services in the course and scope of their employment for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Webster's citizens per the City's Emergency Services Guidelines.
