The City of St Joseph is hiring a Utility Billing Supervisor responsible for overseeing municipal utility billing and customer service. The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking applicants who are passionate about customer service, have proven knowledge of municipal utility billing, tax processing practices, and miscellaneous receivables. The Mt. Pleasant Utility Billing department staff work together to service the daily needs of City residents and customers with utility billings, tax payments, and a wide variety of other general customer service tasks. Every month the Utility Billing department will process approximately 6,100 utility bills and assist 4,300 customers with questions and payments. On an annual basis, taxes are billed in July and December for approximately 6,800 parcels. This is a frontline service department working closely with a large variety of internal and external customers on a daily basis. We are looking for an individual who will uphold our high standards related to each interaction with our customers.
Starting salary in the mid $60,000’s, depending on qualifications.
The successful candidate will be outgoing, friendly, inclusive, calm under pressure, open to new ideas, and able to see the big picture while remaining detail-oriented and skilled in investigating and solving financial discrepancies. Must have a demonstrated ability to independently and cooperatively plan, organize, prioritize, coordinate, and evaluate multiple events and activities. Must be able to build and actively participate in the development and maintenance of successful and professional work teams. Must be able to adapt and accept change in priorities with ease and provide guidance and direction to a team of dedicated frontline Office Professionals in a customer-driven environment. Working closely with the Water Department, the Utility Billing Supervisor will collaborate with others to develop efficient and streamlined processes within the department and across department lines, provide support and assistance to Water Distribution staff, and demonstrate cooperation in meeting the needs of the customer. A sense of humor and strong communication skills are essential.
The standard office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We request that the Utility Billing Supervisor live locally within 12 months of hire, reside and maintain primary domicile within the limits of Isabella County or within 20 miles from the nearest city limit, whichever is greater.
