Job summary

Sealed Air is seeking a Utility Operator to support bag lines and ensure the highest quality products with optimal efficiency and minimal scrap. The role reports to the Shift Leader in a climate-controlled manufacturing plant in Romeoville, IL.

Key duties include stocking, material handling, securing scrap, and coordinating with QA and maintenance to optimize line performance. Forklift certification is preferred, and a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Ability to work safely with minimal supervision.
• Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain it is preferred.
• Ability to stand for 12 hours and lift up to 26 lbs, climb ladders.

Responsibilities

• Operate and support bag/box production lines.
• Keep machines stocked with required materials and pallets in designated areas.
• Supply raw materials to production area and manage scrap.
• Perform routine PM tasks on material handling equipment.
• Assist QA to ensure quality and flag defective products.
• Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and tech teams to optimize line performance.
• Document all operations accurately and seek help when needed.
• Assist in training other personnel in material handling.

Shift: Afternoon / Night
Schedule:3:00 PM to 1:00 AM; Monday - Friday
Shift Premium Amount: $1.00
Pay Rate: $22.50

Position Overview
The Utility Operator position is responsible for supporting the bag lines to safely deliver the highest quality products at the best efficiency and lowest scrap possible through the use of effective manufacturing methods. The Utility Operator reports to the Shift Leader.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Make the allowable amount of box bottoms and lids according to specification for your shift and to start the next shift, and keep the machines stocked with the allowable amount of box bottoms
• When pallets are full, place them in the drop area of the warehouse for shipping/receiving to put away
• Supply all raw materials to the bag & box production area
• Empty all scrap containers once per shift or as needed
• Bale scrap as required
• Responsible for doing scheduled PM work to material handling equipment
• Assist operators and QA to assure that quality standards are upheld and that any suspect or defective product is appropriately destroyed or placed on hold for the Quality Facilitator’s review and decision
• Work as a valuable team member throughout the production room to accomplish the business goals:
• Help inspector/packers and bag machine operators as needed
• Assist and work closely with Quality, Maintenance, and Technical resources to ensure that issues are being addressed to optimize the performance of the line
• Provide feedback and suggestions for improvements
• Communicate positively and respectfully to resolve all issues
• Complete all documentation accurately
• Ask for help when the need arises
• Assist in the training of other personnel in the material handling department

Qualifications

• Forklift certification (or the ability to obtain it) preferred
• Ability to stand for 12 hours; Ability to lift up to 26 lbs. (sometimes overhead) regularly and the ability to climb ladders.
