This posting will be used to fill a Full-time, Permanent, Safety-Sensitive, Utility Support Worker II position in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utility Operations in the Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Division.
This is manual labor in the performance of semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of water distribution and Wastewater Collection systems. An employee in this position normally works as part of a crew in performing repair and various maintenance assignments. The complexity of work entails cutting and installing water and sewer pipes that are damaged or broken; operating motor vehicles and equipment; and testing, repairing and inspecting, and maintaining components of the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems. Personal contacts include responding to the public on the nature and purpose of the work being performed. The work is physical requiring the lifting of heavy pipes, operating heavy equipment, and working in trenches. The hazards of work include working in confined spaces and exposure to contagious diseases. An employee works in all types of weather conditions and must be able to respond to work emergencies outside of the scheduled work hours. Work performance is reviewed and evaluated by a supervisor.

Education: Graduation from high school.
Experience: one (1) or more years experience in repair, maintenance, and construction of water and wastewater systems.
Driver's License: a valid commercial Class B motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTE: Candidates that do not possess a valid commercial Class B motor vehicle operator's license will be required to obtain this license within six (6) months of employment. (Candidates must possess at minimum a valid Non-Provisional Class C motor vehicle operator's license. In addition, candidates must obtain a CDL Learner's Permit within 45 days of hire to allow for adequate CDL training. Candidates will be required to obtain a Medical Certificate as mandated by Federal Law for a CDL Learner's Permit.)
NOTE: The one (1) or more years experience in repair, maintenance and construction of water AND wastewater systems may be substituted with one (1) or more years experience for a total of two (2) or more years experience in repair, maintenance, and construction of water OR wastewater systems.
NOTE: Longevity pay is available based on years of service. NOTE: This position is Safety-Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol testing.
