To perform a wide variety of semi-skilled to skilled work in the construction, replacement, repair, installation, and cleaning of the City's sanitary sewer, storm collection system, and water distribution systems and related facilities.
This is the entry-level classification in the Utility Maintenance Worker series. Employees in this classification perform the full range of assigned duties and responsibilities but do not have supervisory responsibilities. At this level, employees work with a high degree of independence, receiving only occasional instruction or assistance when new or unusual situations arise.

The Utilities Department team members are considered essential employees for the community and play a critical role in maintaining and restoring water and wastewater services during emergencies. Team members will be required to be reachable and ready to come to work immediately when on‑call, or when a critical situation arises, like severe weather events, power outages, or significant equipment malfunctions, to help manage the response and minimize disruption to operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear. Manual dexterity to use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists. The ability to tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing essential functions and be able to lift equipment on a frequent basis, 25 lbs., and on an occasional basis, 50-100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required for this job include the ability to read, write, make observations, and the ability to adjust focus.
