Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, maintenance, and construction of water and sewer facilities, and maintain water and sewer service to customers using a variety of tools and motorized equipment.
  • Operate dump truck and loader in water and sanitary sewer line repairs, and operate combination sewer cleaner during sewer maintenance operations.
  • Operate equipment such as hand tools, pumps, air compressors, saws, jumping jacks, generators, chain saws, and other necessary machinery.
  • Perform general laboring tasks.
  • Make repairs and install water and sanitary sewer lines.
  • Perform troubleshooting and pipe installation tasks.
  • Service and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Work varied shifts, including standby and emergency hours as assigned.

SUMMARY OF JOB

Performs unskilled/skilled work in the repairs, maintenance, construction, and installation of water and sewer lines and facilities, and maintains water and sanitary sewer service to customers. Operates dump truck/loader and combination sewer cleaner, and various equipment such as hand tools, pumps, air compressors, saws, jumping jacks, generators, and chain saws. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment. Required to work varied shifts, standby and emergency hours, and may work overtime or extended hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school graduation or GED equivalent. Previous experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATE, LICENSE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license with air brake and tanker endorsements for a minimum of 30 days.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment date. No more than six demerit points on driving record if required to drive Authority vehicles.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB
  • Walk, stand, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Adjust vision as required; wear corrective lenses if noted on driver’s license when operating vehicles.
  • Repetitive movement using equipment.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, balance, or crawl.
  • Stand for an extended time at the jobsite.
  • Walk several miles during the day.
  • Regularly reach overhead.
  • Lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds; assistance is required for weights above those limits.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Exposure to moderate or high noise levels, extreme weather conditions, uneven, steep, slippery terrain, dust, and wet or humid conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment operation.
  • Roadway hazards, such as traffic.
  • Outdoor hazards, such as poison ivy, bees, spiders, dust, animals.
  • Exposure to confined spaces, sewer manholes, water vaults, wastewater pits, and/or protected trenches.
