Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a field general maintenance worker to install and repair water meters, water and wastewater lines. You will assist in operating specialized equipment for cleaning and inspecting sewer lines and taps, and you will help maintain manholes and meter boxes.

The role includes operating Hydrocleaner, Vacuum truck, CCTV and SCBA units, lifting heavy loads, and maintaining logs of oil levels and equipment maintenance schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 6 months additional maintenance experience.
• Physical exam required.
• Ability to lift up to 75–100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair water meters, water, and wastewater lines.

Job description

• Install and repair water meters, water, and wastewater lines;
• Assist in the operation of specialized equipment in cleaning and inspecting sewer lines and sewer taps;
• Clean and repair manholes; raise and lower manholes and meter boxes;
• Will occasionally operate hydraulic or pneumatic power tools, and lighter construction equipment, i.e.; skid steer;
• Order parts and supplies; clean, repair, and test meters;
• Assist in scheduling routine vehicle and equipment maintenance;
• Assist in setting up proper traffic control devices in work areas;
• Assist in the operation, inspection and maintenance of all city roadways;
• Keep a daily log of oil levels in equipment;
• Performs related duties as directed.

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent with an additional six months experience in construction or maintenance; or any relevant combination of education and experience which provides the following:

Water: *** Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. ***

• Water(Pipeline Maint)- Ability to work in confined spaces using proper safety equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus;

Knowledge of:

• The types and uses of hand tools and equipment for construction and maintenance;
• Methods used to construct and maintain a variety of public works.

Ability to:

• Perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and endurance;
• Follow oral and written instructions;
