Qualifications

• W-2 only. No Corp-to-Corp or 1099 arrangements.

Brooksource is searching for a Project Manager to oversee and execute utility projects, with a focus on substation and transmission line environments. This position will support our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client in Charlotte, NC. The Project Manager will lead project teams, manage all phases of project planning and execution, and ensure project success factors such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, environmental compliance, and communication are met. Key projects generally impact facility or department-level operations.

The role requires strong leadership, coordination, and reporting skills, as well as the ability to work in outdoor environments and walk on rough terrain during site visits. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when on site. This position requires a blend of office-based work, remote work, and regular site visits—typically three days onsite or at project locations and two days remote each week. Approximately 20% travel is required, using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed), with site visits potentially up to 200 miles one way.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Lead and coordinate project teams across internal and external stakeholders for utility substation or transmission line projects
• Plan and manage all phases of project execution, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance
• Establish and maintain effective communication among all project stakeholders, including structuring and leading meetings (kickoff, monthly reviews, weekly updates) and preparing required reports
• Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and Project Management Center of Excellence (PMCoE) standards
• Drive the process of project planning, including scope definition, estimating, schedule formation and monitoring, cost control, procurement/contracting strategies, equipment and vendor selection, start-up, commissioning, and integration
• Conduct regular site visits, requiring physical activity on rough ground and hills, and ensure compliance with PPE and safety protocols (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, FR clothing, work boots)
• Utilize project management and financial tools (e.g., MS Excel, Primavera P6, Ecosys, Powerplant, Maximo) for scheduling, budgeting, and reporting
• Travel up to 20% of the time to worksites, using a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement
• Oversee project closeout, including turnover to operations and warranty management
• Resolve team conflicts and interface with functional managers regarding team member development, placement, and conflict resolution
• Ensure all project documentation and reporting meet PMCoE standards and present reports to management and governance teams as required

WHAT YOU BRING:

• Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of related professional experience
• 4+ years of project management experience, preferably in utility substation or transmission line projects
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
• Experience with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6) and financial tools (e.g., Ecosys, Powerplant, Maximo)
• Ability to lead, manage, and coordinate cross-functional project teams and matrixed team members
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience leading meetings and preparing reports
• Knowledge of project planning, execution, and reporting in accordance with PMCoE standards
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed), with site visits potentially up to 200 miles one way
• Capable of walking on rough ground and hills during site visits and working in general outdoor environments (heat, cold, insects, etc.)
• Willingness to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, FR clothing, work boots) during site visits
