Job summary

City of Mercer Island is seeking an experienced Utilities Operations Manager to lead the Utilities Team within the Public Works Department. The role focuses on planning utilities, coaching staff, and ensuring safe operations for water distribution and wastewater systems.

Responsibilities include budget development, contract administration, and coordinating capital projects with engineers, while maintaining strong communication with City leadership and the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 6 years of directly related experience, including supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree preferred for advanced responsibilities and leadership.
• Experience managing municipal utilities, budgeting, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

• Leads and coaches Utilities Team; sets goals, direction, and annual work plan.
• Performs comprehensive planning for utilities, including rate studies.
• Manages water distribution and wastewater infrastructure; oversees safety and operations.
• Develops and administers the departmental budget; coordinates staffing and expenditures.
• Coordinates Capital Improvement Projects with Engineering Team and stakeholders.
• Represents the City in regional forums and communicates with the public and City leadership.
