Job summary

The City of Gilroy is recruiting four full-time Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Water section of our Utilities Department. Responsibilities include maintaining the City’s water system, wells, and related infrastructure, with potential rotation to the Wastewater section.

Preference given to candidates with water distribution or wastewater certifications, Class A license, heavy equipment experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12th grade or GED.
• 1 year of construction or maintenance experience.
• Reside within 60 minutes of City Yard for standby duty.
• Subject to 7-day paid standby duty on rotating basis.
• Must have CA Class C Driver License and clean driving record.
• Water Section: obtain Grade I Water Distribution certification within 12 months.
• Wastewater Section: obtain CWEA Collections System Maintenance I within 12 months.
• Pass background check and post-offer medical exam.
• Prefer non-tobacco user.

Responsibilities

• Maintain water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, meters, and wells.
• Support emergency water system repairs.
• Operate heavy equipment and maintain water/wastewater facilities.
• Assist with underground construction and water distribution maintenance.
