Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Utilities & Facilities Manager to lead facilities, utilities, maintenance, and hard/soft services operations for a leading life sciences company in Boston. This role is responsible for the safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operation of critical facility systems, while leading teams, managing client relationships, overseeing contracts, and driving continuous improvement.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day facilities, utilities, engineering, and maintenance operations.
  • Manage critical systems including HVAC, electrical, steam, chilled water, compressed air, water, controls/BMS, and life-safety systems.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, OSHA, EHS, and company requirements.
  • Support audits, inspections, change control, CAPA, deviations, and investigations.
  • Manage facility services contracts, vendors, procurement, and service-level agreements.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Lead reliability, energy-efficiency, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Manage facility projects, equipment upgrades, shutdowns, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing facilities and utilities team.
  • Monitor KPIs, maintenance performance, equipment reliability, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as a primary client contact and build strong customer relationships.
  • Identify operational risks and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory and client requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience managing plant utilities, facilities, engineering, or maintenance operations.
  • 8+ years of hands‑on facilities/utilities maintenance experience with responsibility for operations, budgets, contracts, and cost savings.
  • Strong experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or other highly regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of facility infrastructure, HVAC, mechanical/electrical systems, utilities, controls, and maintenance practices.
  • Experience with GMP, FDA, OSHA, EHS, CAPA, change control, and audit readiness.
  • Experience with CMMS, BMS/EMS, maintenance planning, and reliability programs.
  • Proven leadership and team-management skills.
  • Strong contract, vendor, budget, and procurement management experience.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong customer-service and relationship‑management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment.
Big Bonus Points if you Have:
  • PE, CFM, PMP, Six Sigma, or similar certification.
  • Experience with commissioning, qualification, capital projects, and facility expansions.
  • Experience managing large facilities budgets and complex technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of energy management and reliability engineering.

A reasonable estimate of the Base Salary for this role is $180,000 - $190,000 per year. The disclosed pay range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. The compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, such as skills and experience levels.
