Job summary

Brunswick County Public Utility is seeking a Utilities Crew Supervisor to lead the Sewer Collections team, overseeing maintenance, repairs, and service taps. You will prepare diagrams, supervise crews, and coordinate with Purchasing to procure parts.

The role requires strong leadership, safety focus, and data-driven reporting. The Supervisor will act as ORC/Backup ORC for the water system and report to the Collections Superintendent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• 7+ years experience in water distribution or wastewater collections or construction.
• Experience supervising and coordinating a crew preferred.

Job description

Brunswick County Public Utility is currently accepting applications for a Utilities Crew Supervisor to join ourSewer Collections team. Classified as a Grade 4 Collection System by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), Brunswick County Public Utility provides wastewater (sewer) services to nearly 30,000 retail sewer customers and wholesale customers across a large service area. Our Public Utility team is committed to the community and takes a lot of pride in providing a high level of service to our customers every day.

The Crew Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the work of mechanics and technicians involved in service tap installation, preventative maintenance, repair, and operations of the utility systems. Work includes:

• performing specialized skilled work as related to the Brunswick County utility system and related appurtenances.
• preparing sketches and diagrams of proposed services and line repairs.
• overseeing, monitoring, and inspecting work of assigned crew.
• performing cost analysis and assisting in budget preparation.
• interpreting drawings and as-built plans.
• assigning and coordinating work orders for meter leaks, line breaks, utility line installations, pressure regulators, line flushing, etc.
• coordinating with Purchasing to acquire parts for operation and maintenance of the utility system.
• assisting with and resolving complaints from utility customers and the public.
• serving as the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and/or Backup ORC for the designated water system.

The Crew Supervisor is also responsible for assisting with safety procedures and standard operating procedures, coordinating training required for maintenance personnel, and utilizing data from work-order software to assist in the preparation of a variety of reports and records related to the utility system. Excellent leadership skills, highly self-motivated, and the ability to work independently while exercising good judgement are required. This position reports directly to the Collections Superintendent.

High school diploma AND seven (7) years’ experience in water distribution, wastewater collections, and/or construction industry; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Valid NC or SC driver license required.
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or ability to obtain during the probationary period required.
• NC Grade IV Water Pollution Control Collection System Operator Certification or ability to obtain during the probationary period required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with work-order software (i.e., Lucity) is required.
• Supervisory experience highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate pump station equipment and motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force and/or up to 50 pounds of force more frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
