Job summary

Brunswick County Public Utilities is seeking a Utility Mechanic for the Wastewater Collections team. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining sewer systems, responding to backups, and operating multiple heavy and specialized tools.

CDL Class A is required or to be obtained during probation, with on-call duties and safety procedures emphasized. The position offers a career ladder with training opportunities, and NC or SC driver license requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and experience in wastewater collections.
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A required or to be obtained within probationary period.
• Experience and/or certification in NC Wastewater Operator Certification are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in construction, installation, repair and maintenance of the wastewater collection system including pipes, valves, and pump stations.
• Respond to sanitary sewer backups and overflows; set up bypass pumping when needed.
• Operate a variety of equipment such as pumps, vacuum trucks, jet/vac equipment, jetter machines, and power tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, pump stations, pumps, valves and ancillary equipment.
• Assist with setup/teardown of traffic control and safety equipment; maintain worksite cleanliness and safety.
