Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks a High School Learning Specialist for Science to design online courses, final exams, and K-12 credit by exams for UT High School students and district partners. You will facilitate online learning and coordinate support to ensure student success.

Qualifications

This position requires fingerprinting and successful completion of a background check. This position requires reporting to work on the UT main campus, however currently the UT High School is piloting a hybrid remote schedule with three days on campus and two days remote. This position requires remote internet access.## PurposeServe as a lead learning specialist for the UT High School Science program. Design online courses, final exams, and K-12 credit by exams for UT High School students and district partners. Facilitate online learning and coordinate support to ensure student success.## ## Responsibilities* **Instructional Design & Course Development** Design and develop engaging online courses, assessments, and instructional materials aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Apply best practices in online learning to create content that supports diverse student needs using tools such as Canvas and other educational technologies.* **Instructional Support & Program Coordination** Provide instructional guidance and support to teachers and adjunct instructors by developing resources, systems, and communication processes that promote effective instruction, timely feedback, and accurate grading. Support the coordination and continuous improvement of instructional programs.* **Assessment & Credit by Exam Administration** Design, review, and maintain credit by exams and final assessments, ensuring alignment with TEKS and compliance with state requirements. Support audit processes, respond to stakeholder inquiries, and coordinate exam delivery using online proctoring systems.* **Student Support, Collaboration & Outreach** Monitor student progress and outcomes to inform support strategies, including tutoring and intervention resources. Proctor STAAR and AP exams. Collaborate across teams and with external partners to improve programs, support student success, and contribute to training, communication, and outreach efforts.## ## Required QualificationsMaster's degree in education, science, or a closely related field and five years of secondary teaching experience, or bachelor’s degree and seven years of secondary teaching experience. Texas Teacher Certification in high school science and at least three years of experience teaching secondary science courses in Texas public schools. Experience designing instruction and assessments for high school science courses. Comprehensive understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), STAAR expectations, and best practices in science instruction and assessment. Experience implementing support for a variety of student group needs, including emergent bilingual, Gifted/Talented, and special education students. Successful experience supporting students to achieve targeted objectives and tracking and reporting student data. Experience with online instruction. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task with a high level of proficiency. Professional demeanor. Exceptional organizational and communication skills. ## Preferred QualificationsPh.D. in education, science, or a closely related field. More than five years of teaching experience. More than three years of experience teaching science courses in Texas public schools. Experience teaching multiple high school science courses, including Pre-AP/AP, Honors, Dual Credit, or IB. Three or more years of experience in a leadership role in an educational setting. Experience developing and delivering professional development to educators. In-depth understanding of the TEKS, Texas Education Code, FERPA, and graduation requirements. Extensive knowledge of best practices in assessment proctoring and scoring. Experience working with K-12 science curriculum, instruction, or assessment in a learning management system. Educator certification in multiple subject areas. Experience developing or facilitating online instruction. Experience leading training for teachers for curriculum, social-emotional, G/T, Advanced Placement, or emergent bilingual strategies. Experience with blended learning instruction.
