Job summary

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is seeking ushers to warmly welcome attendees, scan tickets, and guide guests to their seats during performances. You will distribute programs, inform patrons about facilities, and help ensure a comfortable, safe experience for all guests.

The role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, work nights and weekends, and maintain a professional appearance. HGO values inclusivity and excellent customer service in a dynamic performing-arts environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience as an usher or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Check and scan tickets and direct guests to their seats.
  • Distribute programs, brochures, and other materials.
  • Inform guests about restrooms, refreshments, and exits.
  • Tend to guests' comfort and assist with questions or concerns.
  • Assist guests with disabilities or other impairments, as needed.
  • Monitor guests' activity to ensure safety of the event.
  • Enforce event rules and health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure lobby and facilities are neat and organized.
  • Follow emergency procedures and guide guests to exits in an orderly manner.
