Job summary

Houston Grand Opera is seeking Usher staff to warmly welcome guests, check tickets, direct seating, and distribute programs. You will guide attendees to restrooms, concessions, and exits while ensuring comfort and safety throughout performances.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and prior usher experience are preferred. The role requires standing for extended periods, nights, weekends, and holidays, with a strong emphasis on customer service and orderly crowd management.

  • Check and scan tickets and direct guests to their seats.

  • Inform guests about location of restrooms, refreshments, and exits.
  • Tend to guests' comfort and assist them with any questions or concerns.
  • Assist guests with disabilities or other impairments, as needed.
  • Monitor guests' activity to ensure the safety of the event.
  • Enforce event rules and relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that the lobby and facilities are neat and organized.
  • Follow all emergency procedures and guide audience members to exits in an orderly manner.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those considered important for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: frequent bending and stooping, standing for up to 2+ hours continuously, sitting, and occasional lifting of items up to 20 lbs.
