Under general supervision of the Risk and Safety Solutions (RSS) Director of Product, the User Experience Designer shapes how researchers, safety staff, and administrators across UC campuses and medical centers interact with RSS applications every day. The User Experience Designer provides UX and UI design for web application development teams whose applications are deployed across UC campuses and medical centers. Working in an agile environment alongside other UX/UI designers, Product Managers, UX Research, and engineers, this role owns the design of assigned product areas, driving a unified user experience across RSS applications, and designs intuitive workflows through complex product surfaces. The incumbent delivers wireframes, interactive prototypes, and detailed, developer-ready design specifications; contributes to the shared design system; and ensures web applications meet campus and University-wide accessibility, design, and branding standards. Independently plans and conducts usability evaluations and user research activities for assigned products. Partners with the UX Researcher and broader UX team to translate research insights into design decisions and validate design work with end users.

The User Experience Designer is part of the Risk and Safety Solutions team that is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and operations of all information systems managed for UC wide Enterprise Risk Management initiatives.
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
Work regularly scheduled hours (8am-5pm) to respond to needs of clients throughout the day. Work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays to respond to project deadlines. Due to the mission critical services provided by this department, this position will work alternate or extended hours as needed to meet peak workloads. Work with clients via telephone and read computer screens for extended periods of time. Travel to and from client sites on and off campus.
