Job Description

Used Car Buyer Purpose:

The Used Car Buyer will have a primary responsibility of executing a process which involves prospecting, appraising, and presenting offers to current vehicle owners with the goal of purchasing their vehicles from multiple sources for resale.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Interfaces with current used vehicle owners from multiple resources with the purpose of purchasing their vehicle.
  2. Approaches, greets and interfaces with dealership customers to appraise and offer to purchase their current vehicles.
  3. Utilize Sonic Automotive automated inventory management system.
  4. Understand market trends and changes to trends in geographic market.
  5. Provide guidance and support to dealership Sales Associates as it relates to purchasing used vehicles.
  6. Appraise used vehicles.
  7. Attend Trade walks daily.
  8. Exhibits high level of commitment to guest satisfaction.
  9. Knows and understands the federal, state and local laws which govern retail automotive sales.
  10. Establish personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity, and devise a strategy to meet those goals.
  11. Attend product and sales training courses as requested by General Manager or Sales Managers.
  12. Keep abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc. and their benefits to guests.
  13. Know and understand equity and values, and be able to explain depreciation to the guest.
  14. Introduce guest to sales department personnel to sell them a new vehicle after purchase of their existing vehicle.
  15. Maintain an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to guest satisfaction.
  16. Maintain a prospect development system of current used vehicle prospects and schedule appointments to appraise and purchase used vehicles.
  17. Attend sales meetings.
  18. Maintain a safe work environment.
  19. Maintain a professional appearance.
  20. Realize that the company’s business is built on guest satisfaction and devote himself/herself to guaranteeing satisfaction to guests.
  21. Determine management, production and quality requirements by asking questions and listening.
  22. Attend Sonic meetings as requested.
  23. Maintain a follow-up system that encourages follow through with assigned projects.
  24. Report to Supervisor regarding objectives, planned activities, reviews and analyses.
  25. Review and analyze actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
  26. Understand the terminology of the business and keep abreast of technology changes in the product.
  27. Follow directions from a supervisor.
  28. Understand and follow work rules and procedures.
  29. Interact well with others and be a positive influence on associate and guest morale.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. At least 1-2 years of Used Car Buyer dealership experience.
  2. Mercedes-Benz brand or luxury brand experience.
  3. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
  4. Excellent communication and customer focus skills.
  5. Ability to meet company’s production and quality standards.
  6. Previous dealership, selling or marketing experience preferred.
Required Qualifications:
  1. All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.
  2. All applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre-employment testing to include background checks, MVR, drug test, credit report, and valid driver license.
