Job summary

DelDOT seeks a Ferry Boat Captain for Area 28, Lewes-Georgetown Hwy, Georgetown, DE. You will safely transport vehicles and pedestrians, oversee navigation, safety, maintenance and crew performance on a 100-ton vessel.

Candidates must hold a USCG Master Captain’s license (100 tons), be available for overtime and storm events on short notice, and work a rotating schedule with occasional non-operational duties in the maintenance yard.

Qualifications

• Possession of a United States Coast Guard license to operate passenger carrying vessels of at least 100 tons.
• One year of experience in marine operations and navigation.
• One year of experience in operating and maintaining electronic gear and diesel engines.
• Six months’ experience in preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate ferry boat to transport vehicles and pedestrians across the river.
• Oversee vessel safety, maintenance, and crew performance.
• Coordinate vessel loading/unloading and weight distribution for safety.
• Develop maintenance schedules and perform repairs, upgrades to hull and systems.
• Monitor weather, tides, and conditions for year-round operations.
