Job summary

US Synthetic in Orem, UT is seeking a Student Engineer to assist Process Engineer/Specialist with all aspects of the assigned process and related machines. You will perform audits and trainings to promote continuous improvement.

You will learn Lean and Six Sigma principles, support quality improvements, and train operators using standard works, PDCA cycles, and meetings. This entry-level role requires a high school diploma and enrollment in a bachelor’s engineering program.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Accepted to a bachelor’s engineering program with intent to graduate.
  • Lean and Six Sigma knowledge is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Engineer/Specialist with assigned process and related machines.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving on the shop floor.
  • Assist production operators with machine malfunctions; assist maintenance when needed.
  • Support quality improvements on the production floor.
  • Contribute to PDCA items and Six Sigma projects.
  • Learn and apply Six Sigma principles.
  • Develop and audit standard works for training.
  • Assist in process meetings and training others.

US Synthetic has an immediate need for a Student Engineer located in Orem, UT. The Student Engineer will assist Process Engineer/Specialist with all aspects of assigned process and related machines. Perform audits and trainings and use Lean methods to promote continuous improvement.

What You Will Do:
  • Assist Engineer/Specialist with all aspects of assigned process and related machines
  • Troubleshooting
  • Assist production operators with machine malfunctions; assist maintenance when needed
  • Assist production floor with quality improvements
  • Own and be a part of PDCAs for the process
  • Learn and apply Six Sigma principles
  • Create, audit and maintain standard works operators to use for training on process, i.e. Critical Knowledge and Job Breakdown Sheets
  • Run and train others in process meetings
  • Work a flexible schedule based around school schedule
  • Follow all company policies (Attendance, No Tobacco Products on Campus, Illegal Drug & Alcohol, Family Medical Leave Act, Personal Appearance, Personal Electronic Devices, Vacation & Personal Time, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED is required
  • Immigration sponsorship not available for this role
  • Must have been accepted to a bachelor’s engineering program at a university with intent to graduate
Physical Demands:
  • Combination of sitting, standing and walking for eight or more hours
  • Occasional repetitive motion s
  • Use of Safety Equipment (Safety glasses, Steel-toed boots)

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to apply things learned at school
  • Ability to teach and explain methods, standards, etc. to others (Job Instruction)
