Mistral is seeking a US Patent Attorney to join the legal team in Palo Alto. You will transform cutting-edge AI research into a strategic IP portfolio, protecting innovations and supporting global growth.

Collaborate with research, engineering and product teams to identify patentable inventions, draft filings, and steer international prosecutions. You’ll help shape AI standards and align IP strategy with open-source objectives.

Qualifications

• Proven experience drafting patents in complex software/AI domains.
• Deep understanding of AI patent eligibility in US/Europe.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs or GenAI technologies.

Responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize patentable inventions by engaging researchers, engineers, and product managers.
• Draft invention memos and patent applications, translating complex ideas into clear disclosures.
• Manage global patent prosecution, including office actions and outside counsel.
• Develop and maintain internal IP processes, dashboards, and portfolio metrics.
• Support M&A by assessing IP portfolios, freedom-to-operate risks, and competitive positioning.
• Administer and evolve inventor recognition programs including bonuses and visibility initiatives.
• Align patent strategy with open-source objectives and defend networks/alliances.
