Job summary

Mistral AI is seeking a US Patent Attorney to join the legal team and transform cutting-edge research into a strategic IP portfolio. You will work with researchers, engineers, and product teams to identify, prioritize, and secure patentable inventions, shaping the future of open-source AI and aligning IP strategy with the company’s mission.

The role involves managing global patent prosecution, drafting memos and applications, and developing internal IP processes.

Qualifications

Experience drafting patents in complex software/AI domains.
Understanding of AI patent eligibility in US and Europe.
Ability to work with researchers and engineers to identify patentable inventions.

Responsibilities

Identify and prioritize patentable inventions with researchers and engineers.
Draft invention memos and patent applications translating technical ideas into clear disclosures.
Manage global patent prosecution with outside counsel to ensure high-quality filings.
Develop and maintain internal IP processes, dashboards, and portfolio metrics.
Support IP aspects of M&A due diligence including freedom-to-operate analyses.
Administer inventor recognition programs including bonuses and visibility initiatives.
Align patent strategy with open-source objectives and defense networks.
