Job summary

Oceaneering is seeking a US Deorbit Vehicle GNC Simulation Engineer in Houston to support the USDV team. You will provide math modeling, simulation development, and GN&C verification for ISS visiting vehicle operations under the JETS II contract.

International travel may be required. Possible straight time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off)

Responsibilities

As a US Deorbit Vehicle GNC Simulation Engineer you will work on the US Deorbit Vehicle (USDV) Team providing sim and modeling support of the USDV ISS visiting vehicle Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) systems in support of the final mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The selected applicant will:

  • Provide math modeling, simulation development, integration, and testing of USDV GN&C systems using an established software process.
  • Perform and document simulation verification and validation (V&V)
  • Create and deliver math model and simulation documentation
  • Identify team simulation tasks, resolve simulation issues, and assist team members
  • Directly interact with the NASA customers and contractors during technical meetings and working groups
  • Maintain relationships with a diverse technical team
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Experience with Linux, C/C++, FORTRAN, and Python
  • Experience with version control systems
  • Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles
  • Experience developing, verifying, and validating math models and simulations
  • Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and spacecraft system analysis
  • Ability to apply knowledge/experience towards timely completion of technical products & services
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-company team environment
  • Strong leadership skills.
Preferred
  • MS in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on GN&C, flight controls, and orbital mechanics
  • Experience with spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking
  • Experience with the Station/Orbiter Multibody Berthing/Docking Analysis Tool (SOMBAT)
  • Experience with Git/GitLab
  • Experience with JSC TRICK Simulation Environment
  • Experience with NASA NPR-7150.2
  • Experience with simulation visualization and graphics packages
  • Experience in product delivery and management
  • Experience with requirements management tools
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position.

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines: Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance: Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
