About the Opportunity:

As our Winery Laboratory Lead, you'll play a key role in supporting the winemaking process from fermentation through bottling. You'll lead daily laboratory activities, oversee analytical testing, guide laboratory staff, and work closely with our winemaking, cellar, and production teams to maintain exceptional wine quality.

We're looking for someone who can balance hands-on laboratory expertise with strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills, someone who knows when to roll up their sleeves, troubleshoot an issue, and keep the team moving forward.

  • Monitor fermentation progress, malolactic fermentation, and microbiological stability.
  • Analyze laboratory results, identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and communicate findings to the winemaking team.
  • Provide analytical support during harvest, production, blending, and bottling.
Collaborate & Make an Impact
  • Work closely with winemaking, cellar, and quality teams to support production decisions and wine quality.
  • Conduct pre-bottling analysis, including stability testing and quality verification.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and support TTB compliance, traceability, and quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, testing accuracy, and turnaround times.
Lead with Safety & Quality in Mind
  • Reinforce safe laboratory practices, proper PPE use, chemical handling, sanitation, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Help maintain a safe, compliant, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of winery laboratory experience, with a strong understanding of wine chemistry and fermentation science.
  • Bachelor's degree in Enology, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to guide staff, prioritize workloads, and keep laboratory operations running efficiently.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, instrumentation, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including laboratory data tracking, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across departments.
  • Knowledge of TTB regulations and wine industry quality standards.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience supporting winery harvest operations and production environments.
  • Experience with winery ERP systems or laboratory data management software.
