Job description

Utah Veterinary Emergency Center (UVEC) is an independently owned veterinary hospital in Herriman, Utah, with UVC - Wellness, UVC - Urgent Care, and UVC - Reproduction under one roof. We are building a practice committed to gold-standard medicine, doctor well-being, and genuine community impact. We’re looking for a talented, driven Urgent Care Veterinarian to join our team.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As an Urgent Care Veterinarian at UVEC, you will practice the gold standard of medicine in a well-equipped, modern facility. You’ll work alongside experienced veterinary professionals in a collaborative, supportive environment designed to let you do your best clinical work without the burnout.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
  • $150,000 base salary or 25% production—whichever is greater. No cap on your upside. No negative accrual.
  • 12-hour shifts: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Maximum of 14 shifts per month—we believe in sustainable schedules
BENEFITS & PERKS
  • 14 days of PTO annually—immediately vested with no accrual period
  • 3 days of paid sick leave
  • One round-trip flight per year covered by UVEC—because your time off should actually feel like time off
  • Our DVMs get a corporate credit card to buy necessities: meals for staff on a busy night, books, or whatever else they deem reasonable
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • DEA license and state veterinary license fees covered
  • Continuing education (CE) allowance
  • Professional liability insurance provided
  • Well-stocked kitchen—snacks and meals on long shift days because you shouldn’t have to think about food when you’re focused on patients
  • No corporate red tape—independent ownership means decisions are made by clinicians, not a boardroom
MENTORSHIP & GROWTH

UVEC offers a level of in-house mentorship that is rare in veterinary medicine. Our leadership team brings deep clinical expertise and is personally invested in the professional development of every doctor on staff. Whether you’re a recent graduate building confidence or a seasoned clinician sharpening your edge, you will learn and grow faster here than at any other practice. We don’t just say we develop our people—we structure our entire operation around it. Our veterinarians are expected to cut. Surgery is a core part of practicing the gold standard of medicine, and we take it seriously. If you’re already confident in the OR, great. If you’re not there yet, we will teach you. That’s not a throwaway line—our mentorship program is built to get you comfortable and competent with a scalpel in your hand.

WHO THRIVES HERE

UVEC is built for veterinarians who take pride in their craft. We look for people with a strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine desire to grow. The clinicians who thrive here are the ones who hold themselves to a high standard, welcome feedback, and find energy in working alongside a team that operates the same way. This is a place where your effort is matched by the people around you and where the work you do has real meaning. Culture is everything to us. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for disrespectful or toxic behavior, regardless of clinical talent or seniority. UVEC is a team of professionals who treat each other with respect, communicate openly, and hold each other accountable. That standard applies to everyone equally, and it’s one of the things that makes this place worth building.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat urgent veterinary cases across a wide range of presentations
  • Perform surgical and diagnostic procedures—our doctors are expected to be confident and capable in the OR
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and prognosis
  • Maintain thorough and accurate medical records
  • Collaborate with support staff, veterinary technicians, and referring veterinarians
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented workplace culture—respect is not optional here
  • Practice the gold standard of patient care and client service in every interaction
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA-accredited institution
  • Active veterinary license in good standing in the State of Utah (or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • Clinical confidence in urgent care medicine; prior urgent care experience preferred but not required
  • Strong diagnostic and surgical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine commitment to compassionate, evidence-based veterinary medicine
  • A strong work ethic and the drive to continuously improve—you hold yourself to a high standard
WHY UVEC?

UVEC is not a corporate consolidation play. We are an independently owned practice founded by veterinary professionals who believe the industry can do better—better for doctors, better for staff, and better for pets and their families. Herriman and the surrounding southwest Salt Lake Valley communities are growing rapidly, and UVEC is here to serve them with a hospital built around modern medicine, sustainable work-life balance, and a culture where great clinicians do great work. If you’re ready to raise the bar and be part of something built to last—we’d love to hear from you.
