Job summary

Crossroads Charter Schools of Kansas City is seeking dedicated Tutors to provide reading support and/or math support to students in small groups. The Tutors will focus on the Science of Reading and/or the Science of Math to tailor lessons for diverse learners.

This is a part-time contractor position designed to make a meaningful impact on student success. Ideal candidates will bring knowledge of literacy and math instruction, strong communication skills, and a commitment to professional growth

Qualifications

• Understanding of literacy development and Science of Reading principles.
• Understanding of Math development and Science of Math Principles.
• Experience working with students on reading, literacy, and/or math preferred.
• Excellent communication and ability to build rapport with diverse students.
• Patience, adaptability, and passion for helping students succeed.
• Degree or training in education, literacy studies, mathematics, or related field preferred.
• Desire for ongoing professional development.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and schedules.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to inform multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group literacy instruction (reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency).
• Provide individualized and small-group math instruction.
• Apply evidence-based practices from Science of Reading/Math to tailor lessons.
• Use varied instructional strategies to support reading and math development.
• Regularly assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Collaborate with teachers to align tutoring with literacy and math goals.
• Maintain a positive, engaging learning environment and report progress to teachers/parents.
• Demonstrate gains in student performance and participate in meetings/professional development.
• Meet deadlines and adhere to school policies and expectations.
