Job summary

City of Idaho Falls seeks a Horticulturist/Forestry Technician to assist in planting, care, and layout of trees, shrubs, and flowers on city property. Responsibilities include fertilization, pesticide applications, equipment operation, and greenhouse crop maintenance under supervision.

The role supports beautification projects, manages tree inventories, and trains staff on chemical application while ensuring safety and adherence to ANSI standards.

Qualifications

• Graduation from college with an Associate's Degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Botany or related field.
• Two years of experience as a botanist, forester, horticulturist or in similar duties.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with proper landscaping of parks, cemeteries, golf courses, median and right-of-ways by planting, transplanting, fertilizing, cultivation, trimming and removal of plantings.
• Performs fertilizer, herbicide, fungicide and pesticide applications, ensuring correct concentrations and safe use.
• Operates light power/motorized equipment and maintains small department equipment.
• Maintains greenhouse crops and inspects for pests/diseases, applying treatments as needed.
• Trains staff on proper chemical application and assists in tree inventory records.
