Job summary
State of South Dakota, Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources - Resource Conservation and Forestry Division, seeks a Service Forester to support Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) programs in Pierre. The role coordinates sub-awards and grants, provides technical guidance to communities and landowners, and participates in training and outreach activities.
The ideal candidate has a BS in Forestry or related field, GIS experience (ArcGIS) is highly desirable, and is comfortable with travel
Qualifications
- Bachelor-level degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry or related natural resources.
- Working knowledge of geographic information systems (ArcGIS) is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- evaluate tree health and management issues in towns and communities
- provide technical advice to local communities, tree boards, private landowners and others
- assist with urban forestry field projects and community enhancement grants
- conduct urban tree inventories and tree care workshops
- respond to sick tree calls and manage tree pests/diseases
- prepare and review shelterbelt planting plans
- travel for field work and meetings as needed
