Job summary

The City of Fayetteville is seeking an experienced urban forestry professional to manage public trees, coordinate planting and pruning, and ensure compliance with tree regulations. The role involves data management, project oversight, and collaboration with boards and city departments.

The position requires a degree in urban forestry or related field, ISA certification or commitment to obtain, and strong project management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture or related field with at least three years of project management experience.
• Knowledge/experience in green infrastructure and landscape design preferred.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Criminal background check required.
• Certified Arborist with ISA or ability to obtain within 1 year; Municipal Specialist Certification preferred.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of construction/grading methods and their effect on trees.
• Proficient reading/scaling of surveys, grading plans and construction details.
• Proficient in office software and field devices; ArcGIS/AutoCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Administer and interpret City tree regulations and ordinances.
• Assess trees on public property for condition and hazard; decide on pruning/removal.
• Inspect tree protection measures and ensure compliance with plans.
• Represent City with the public, officials, developers and staff.
• Attend Urban Forestry Advisory Board and other meetings as directed.
• Maintain complex records and create/update maps/data sets.
• Apply analytical methods to manage the City’s urban forest.
• Coordinate tree planting, pruning, and capital projects; prepare bids.
