Job summary

The City of Fayetteville, AR seeks an experienced Urban Forestry Manager to oversee tree preservation, planning and public-green initiatives. You will administer ordinances, manage capital projects, and coordinate with advisory boards and city departments.

Candidates must have a high school diploma with eight years of related experience (Bachelor's preferred) and a Certified Arborist designation or ability to obtain within one year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with eight years of directly related experience; at least three of the eight years must include project management experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture or related field with at least three years of increasingly responsible project management experience is highly preferred.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.
• Must successfully pass criminal background check as specified by city regulations.
• Current Certified Arborist with ISA or ability to obtain certification within 1 year; Municipal Specialist Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide good customer service to internal and external customers and maintain reliable attendance.
• Administer and interpret Tree Preservation and Protection and Landscape Development Code chapters.
• Evaluate trees on public property for condition or hazard; decide pruning/removal and replacement.
• Inspect tree protection devices; conduct periodic inspections and ensure compliance with plans; issue final occupancy certificates.
• Exercise sound judgment as a City representative when interacting with the public, officials, developers and staff.
• Attend Urban Forestry Advisory Board and other city meetings; prepare to present projects.
• Maintain complex records; create or convert data maps as needed.
• Apply analytical methods to identify and manage the City's urban forest.
• Order trees, design planting projects, pruning cycles, and forest management plans; research improvements.
• Prepare RFPS, bids, contracts; provide project management and site visits.
• Coordinate training and education programs; update Urban Forestry Plan and Technical Manual.
• Act as liaison between City, citizens and utility companies to resolve conflicts.
• Prepare public announcements and maintain city website; assist with tree give-away programs.
• Research grants and funding sources; prepare grant applications and reports to state agencies.
