Job summary

Ryan Specialty is seeking an Associate Energy Underwriter in Houston, TX to support underwriting of upstream Oil & Gas accounts. You will gather information, analyze risk exposures, and help prepare policy transactions while aligning with guidelines and delivering responsive service to brokers and clients.

Ideal candidates have six months+ insurance experience and strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Prior exposure to Energy is a plus; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
• Six months or more Property & Casualty or commercial insurance experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support underwriting of new and renewal upstream Oil & Gas accounts with accurate data and pricing.
• Respond to broker and client inquiries about Energy insurance products and coverage.
• Collect underwriting information from brokers and insureds to facilitate smooth processes.
• Prepare and maintain underwriting documentation: submissions, quotes, binders, endorsements.
• Review applications to identify risk exposures and coverage eligibility.
• Assist with premium and rating calculations using guidelines and pricing methods.
• Analyze oil and gas operations, loss history, and exposures to support decisions.
• Maintain accurate files and generate reports on submissions, renewals, and portfolio activity.
• Assist audits by providing documentation and ensuring records are complete and compliant.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and carrier standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams to provide timely service to brokers and clients.
• Serve as a primary contact for brokers and agents with responsive communication.
• Participate in training to build technical underwriting knowledge in upstream Energy.
