TITLE

UPS Technician III (Travel)

LOCATION

Tempe, AZ

POSITION SUMMARY

A UPS Technician III is responsible for startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for systems related to Uninterruptable Power Supply systems, including Battery Systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform UPS replacements and new installations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, trouble diagnosis, routine, and emergency repairs of all types of systems without supervision and with minimal disruption to customer.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, start-up, and commission all types of UPS systems.
  • Lead jobs with multiple crew members of various skill levels.
  • Communicate and work effectively with general contractors, subcontractors, partners, and clients to complete projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Operate all equipment including UPS systems, Battery systems, PDU's, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers without supervision.
  • Display excellent written and oral communication skills with co-workers, sales teams, engineering partners, management teams, and clients.
  • Accurately assess human power requirements for maintenance and installation services.
  • Estimate consumables and connectivity parts for project completion.
  • Recognize when crew productivity and safety are jeopardized.
  • Exercise leadership and good judgement resulting in healthy, harmonious, productive, and happy team performance.
  • Show characteristics that foster great team morale and spirit of cooperation on job sites and operations center.
  • Balance multiple needs and challenges from a multitude of directions.
  • Teach learned skills, techniques, strategies, and methods to the next generation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
  • Other duties as assigned by Services Management.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma & a minimum of 3 to 5 years UPS service experience.
  • Must have electrical/mechanical experience relating to UPS systems, DC systems and knowledge of OEM's such as Eaton, Mitsubishi, Schneider, APC, GE, Emerson, etc.
  • Clean driving records.
  • Safe operation of department equipment.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn basic AC/DC theory, electronic components, and electronic circuitry.
  • Complete training on:
    • Use of Digital multimeter for AC and DC diagnostic measurements.
    • Use of Amp Clamp and flexible CT in DC and AC measures.
    • Use of Phase Rotation Meter, Power Quality Analyzer, IR camera, and Oscilloscope.
    • Show understanding of proper use of:
      • Isolation devices to control available voltage potentials.
      • Necessary use of Arc-Flash suit and PPE.
  • Show competency in the connections of series, parallel, and series parallel.
  • Understand torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of completed installations.
  • Understand and operate Phase Rotation meters, Power Quality.
  • US Citizenship Required
Computer Skills

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.

Certificates and Licenses
  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • NFPA-70E Safety Training
  • Thermography, level 2 or higher
Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit; standing and walking is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must lift and carry up to 50-70 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
