This internship is designed to provide an engineering student with hands‑on exposure to critical power systems, field service operations, product troubleshooting, technical documentation, repair processes, and Factory Witness Testing.

Job Summary

The UPS Field Service Intern will provide technical and project support to Toshiba’s UPS Field Service organization. This internship is designed to provide an engineering student with hands‑on exposure to critical power systems, field service operations, product troubleshooting, technical documentation, repair processes, and Factory Witness Testing. The intern will work alongside Field Service, Repair Shop, Engineering, and other technical personnel to review and improve service documentation, support processes associated with new UPS products, and assist with Factory Witness Testing activities. The role provides an opportunity to develop practical knowledge of UPS system operation and service practices while contributing to process improvement, product reliability, and enhanced customer support capabilities. The position builds naturally on Toshiba's existing UPS Field Service work, which includes equipment startup, commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, technical support, and Factory Witness Testing.

Key Responsibilities
Field Service Documentation & Process Improvement
  • Review existing UPS startup check sheets, service procedures, and technical documentation for accuracy, consistency, and usability.
  • Assist with updating and organizing startup procedures and related Field Service documentation.
  • Work with Field Service personnel to identify opportunities to improve technical documentation and standardize service processes.
  • Help document lessons learned and recommended process improvements.
  • Support organization and maintenance of technical information used by the Field Service team.
Repair Shop / Return Authorization Support
  • Assist the Repair Shop/RA team with developing and improving processes for the return, tracking, and documentation of failed power modules.
  • Support return and failure-tracking activities associated with new Toshiba UPS products, including the 3000SP, 3000TP, and 1100 Series.
  • Assist with organizing product failure information and supporting documentation to improve visibility and follow‑up.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve the flow of information between Field Service, the Repair Shop, and other technical teams.

This work complements the existing Field Service organization's responsibility for in‑house repairs and coordination of repair‑shop and return‑authorization processes.

Factory Witness Testing (FWT) Support
  • Assist with preparation and setup activities associated with Factory Witness Testing.
  • Support installation and preparation of UPS equipment for customer witness testing.
  • Assist with organizing test documentation, checklists, and other materials needed for FWT activities.
  • Work with technical personnel to help ensure equipment and documentation are prepared prior to testing.
  • Observe testing activities to develop an understanding of equipment performance, customer requirements, and system operation.

Factory Witness Testing within the UPS Field Service organization includes equipment installation for customer verification and confirmation of customer requirements.

Technical Learning & Field Service Support
  • Gain exposure to UPS system architecture, operation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Shadow experienced Field Service and technical personnel to develop an understanding of service activities and common equipment issues.
  • Develop familiarity with electrical safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment when working around UPS equipment.
  • Participate in technical projects and other Field Service initiatives as assigned.
Education
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Previous Toshiba internship planning for this UPS Field Service role specifically identified Electrical Engineering as the desired academic background.
Skills & Experience
  • Basic understanding of electrical and electronic principles through academic coursework.
  • Interest in power electronics, electrical power systems, UPS systems, or field service engineering.
  • Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn hands‑on equipment and service processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing technical documents and test information.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to organize technical information and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Field Service, Engineering, Repair Shop, and other technical teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures when working in technical, manufacturing, repair, or test environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework in power systems, power electronics, circuits, electronics, controls, or related electrical engineering subjects.
  • Prior internship, laboratory, hands‑on electronics, or technical project experience.
  • Interest in troubleshooting electrical/electronic equipment and understanding root causes of equipment failures.
  • Interest in a future career in field service, power electronics, applications engineering, product support, or electrical engineering.
