Job summary

Thayer Academy in Massachusetts (Braintree) is seeking a part-time Design, Art & Entrepreneurship Technician to support student projects in the Collaborative Design Lab and Entrepreneurship Program. You will assist with design, fabrication, prototyping, and preparation of materials for classes.

This hands-on role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 0–2 years in K–12 or youth programs. Flexibility to support multiple courses and disciplines is valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering, Fine Arts, or related field.
  • 0–2 years experience in K–12 education or youth programs.
  • Familiarity with design thinking, fabrication tools, digital design software, and project-based learning.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with design, fabrication, and prototyping projects.
  • Oversee and maintain the Collaborative Design Lab.
  • Ensure safe operation of fabrication equipment.
  • Provide technical support during courses in design, entrepreneurship, and arts.
  • Prepare materials, equipment, and workspaces for classes.
  • Assist faculty in implementing project-based learning experiences.

Upper School Part-Time Design & Entrepreneurship TechnicianPosition OverviewThe Collaborative Design Lab (CDL) and Entrepreneurship Program are expanding, driven by growing student interest through the 9th Grade Arts Rotation and Entrepreneurship courses. We are seeking a part-time Design, Art & Entrepreneurship Technician to support student project development, maintain and oversee the lab environment, and assist with fabrication and prototyping activities.This role is ideal for someone interested in applying design, making, and fabrication skills within a project-based educational setting. The position offers hands-on experience supporting STEAM education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and student-centered learning.SupervisionThis position reports to:Director of the Collaborative Design Lab & Entrepreneurship ProgramChair of the Arts DepartmentSchedule & Compensation3 days per weekUp to 15 hours per weekResponsibilitiesSupport students with design, fabrication, and prototyping projectsAssist with oversight, organization, and maintenance of the Collaborative Design LabEnsure safe operation of fabrication equipment and toolsProvide technical support during design, entrepreneurship, and arts courses as neededPrepare materials, equipment, and workspaces for classes and student projectsAssist faculty in implementing project-based learning experiencesQualificationsCurrently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering, Fine Arts, or a related field.0–2 years of experience working in K–12 educational settings, youth programs, summer camps, makerspaces, or similar learning environments.Familiarity with design thinking, fabrication tools, digital design software, and project-based learning methodologiesStrong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently while supporting multiple projects and prioritiesWe are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about working with high school students and supporting creative, hands-on learning experiences.
