Job summary

Wabash is seeking an Upfit Technician I to perform high-level tasks on truck bodies and trailers, including disassembly, upfitting, and repair of electrical and hydraulic systems. The role requires reading drawings, using power tools, and operating lifting equipment. A valid driver’s license and welding experience are essential.

The successful candidate will work in a team, adhere to safety guidelines, and contribute to on-time, quality maintenance of fleet equipment at our facility in Georgia.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced mechanical and 12V electrical skills with welding experience.
  • Truck body or equipment repair and ability to troubleshoot with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to work off scaffolding up to 12 feet.
  • Must have a current driver's license.

  • Follow all Wabash WPO guidelines, attain all required certifications, work safely, and use proper PPE.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Perform repairs and procedures in a safe and timely manner.
  • Operate pneumatic and battery powered cordless tools.
  • Read basic drawings and prints.
  • Ability to operate lifting devices (forklift/ stacker).
  • Apply adhesives, mechanical fasteners, and light-duty paint material; operate saws and drill press equipment.
  • Record part numbers on work orders.

Job description

About the Role:

As an Upfit Technician I, you will perform a variety of high-level activities related to truck body and trailers. Activities include but are not limited to knowledge of truck body and van electrical and hydraulic issues, disassemble and reassemble all sections of the truck body, body mounts, upfitting, as well as diagnose and repair as needed.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Follow all Wabash WPO guidelines, attain all required certifications, work safely, and use proper PPE.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Do repairs and procedures in a safe and timely manner.
  • Operate Pneumatic and battery powered cordless tools.
  • Read basic drawings and prints.
  • Ability to operate lifting devices (forklift/ stacker)
  • Apply adhesives and mechanical fasteners, operate sanders and apply light duty paint material, operate saws and drill press equipment.
  • Ability to record part numbers on work orders.
  • Basic understanding of 12v or automotive electrical system.
  • Before beginning an assignment, read the work order completely, check the VIN on the vehicle to ensure you have the correct components and vehicle for the assigned job.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONSa
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced mechanical and 12v electrical skills with welding experience
  • Truck body or equipment manufacturing repair and ability to troubleshoot / problem solve with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to work off scaffolding up ten to twelve feet.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires minimum of eight hours standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling with a full range of body mechanics/movements.
  • Required to kneel and work under a truck or van.
  • Regularly required to lift and carry up to 35 (thirty-five) pounds. Frequently required to lift and carry up to fifty-five (55) pounds.
  • Must be able to work in an environment requiring use of ladder, stairs, heights, platforms and climbing in and out of trucks and vans or working under trucks in tight spaces.
  • Must have ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools safely, work with compressed air safely, operate fork trucks, overhead crane, and scissor lift safely and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).
