Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services seeks a skilled Unix/Linux System Programmer with strong C programming, Perl scripting, and network programming expertise to develop and support low-level system applications and secure solutions in a complex enterprise environment.

You will design, implement, and optimize network services, collaborate across teams, and contribute to platform stability and security in a banking/financial services context.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems and system internals.
• Proficiency in C programming with hands-on experience in system and network programming.
• Strong experience with Perl scripting for automation and system administration tasks.
• Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, sockets, and inter-process communication.
• Knowledge of security concepts, secure coding standards, and defensive programming techniques.
• Experience with Kerberos authentication and related security frameworks.
• Familiarity with debugging, performance tuning, and system diagnostics tools.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize system-level applications on Unix/Linux platforms using C.
• Design and implement network programming solutions utilizing sockets, IPC, and other communication protocols.
• Create and maintain automation scripts and system utilities using Perl.
• Analyze and troubleshoot operating system, application, and network-related issues.
• Implement secure coding practices and promote defensive programming methodologies.
• Support authentication and authorization mechanisms, including Kerberos integration.
• Monitor system performance and recommend tuning and optimization improvements.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure platform stability and security.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment activities.
• Experience with shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell).
• Exposure to multi-threaded and concurrent programming.
• Knowledge of Linux security controls and identity management solutions.
• Experience in enterprise, banking, or financial services environments.
• Familiarity with source control tools such as Git.
