About American Jewish University

American Jewish University (AJU)’s mission is to advance and elevate the Jewish journey of individuals, organizations, and our community through scholarship, teaching, engaged conversation, and outreach. With locations in Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Simi Valley, CA, and distance education programs that reach learners nationally and globally, AJU is a private, not-for-profit higher education institution that provides accredited academic and nonacademic programming. AJU has two schools with degree- programs are the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies (ZSRS), which offers an in-person MA in Rabbinic Studies and ordains Conservative Rabbis; and the Masor School for Jewish Education and Leadership (e.g, the Masor School), which has online early childhood educational programming at the BA, MA, EdD degrees and certificate-levels as well as an EdD in Jewish Education and Communal Leadership. AJU also provides undergraduate-level for-credit academic programming to high school-aged students through its Jewish Learning Experience (JLE) program. The 2024-25 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) student enrollment was 164. Guided by its mission statement, the University engages in numerous outreach efforts to both Jewish and secular communities through accessible, community programming that reaches thousands of learners annually. These include: the Whizin Center for Open Learning; the Sigi Ziering Institute of Holocaust Studies; the Maas Center for Jewish Journeys and it signature Miller Introduction to Judaism program; Camp Alonim; and the Ziering-Brandeis Collegiate Institute.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, AJU seeks a University Registrar and Director of Assessment to manage registrar services and all assessment-related activities for the University. This position is a key academic administrative leader responsible for managing all aspects of academic records, annual institutional assessment, and academic programmatic review. This position ensures the integrity of student data, supports continuous institutional improvement through assessment, and plays a vital role in the use of evidence-based data to support institutional effectiveness.

The ideal candidate for this position has an understanding and appreciation of AJU’s mission, a positive attitude, enthusiasm for supporting and engaging with learners and students, faculty and staff, possesses high standards for integrity, and a commitment to highly ethical practices.

This position is expected to work on campus regularly at AJU’s three locations (its Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Simi Valley locations) as well as in virtual/remote settings. While the job entails working at an AJU location, a portion of the work in supporting the Masor School will be conducted via Zoom/Teams.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Registrar Services

  • Serve as University Registrar for American Jewish University.
  • Maintain accurate and secure student academic records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Maintain and update the student information system (SIS) to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Manage course registration, schedule changes, grading, transcript issuance, and enrollment verifications.
  • Coordinate academic calendars, course schedules, and the annual academic catalog publication.
  • Create and maintain office documentation, forms, and guides to support efficient operations.
  • Perform degree audits, certify graduation eligibility, and process diplomas.
  • Prepare institutional reports including enrollment statistics, completion rates, and academic performance metrics.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on midsemester surveys, course evaluations, and other surveys as needed.
  • Fulfill state, federal, and accreditation reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDS, state authorizations for distance education, accreditor-specific data).
  • Interpret and enforce academic policies, ensuring consistent application across the institution.
  • Managing the daily operations of the Registrar Services office and maintaining a consummate level of customer service.
  • Manage time and priorities independently in a multi-functional administrative role.

Institutional Assessment & Program Review

  • Develop and coordinate institutional assessment plans for academic schools and ancillary units. This will include annual outcomes assessment of courses, program, and institutional leaning objectives.
  • Coordinate academic program reviews, working with faculty to collect, analyze, and report on program effectiveness.
  • Guide schools and faculty in developing learning outcomes, assessment tools, and continuous improvement plans.
  • Compile and submit program review documentation for internal planning and external accreditation bodies.
  • Support faculty and administration in using assessment data to inform curriculum development and resource planning.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness.
  • Prepare assessment reports and documentation for accreditation and compliance purposes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accreditor expectations regarding assessment and program review processes.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three to five years of experience in registrar services.
  • Experience with institutional assessments or program reviews preferred; willingness to learn is acceptable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with student information technology and learning management software (experience with Populi SIS and/or Canvas LMS, preferred).
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision is critical; this individual must possess the characteristics of initiative, cooperativeness, loyalty, and integrity.
  • Deep commitment to confidentiality and adherence to required laws and policies governing student services, especially in a university setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, trustees, government and nonprofit officials, and business leaders in a manner that positively portrays AJU and its programs, personnel, and mission.
  • Must be willing and available to travel to visit campuses in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and Simi Valley, CA.
  • Ability to oversee multiple diverse projects at one time.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
